As India Pharma Inc continues to expand and progress, elevating its position in the global pharma market necessitates an environment which fosters innovation, facilitates collaborative strategies and newer operating business models. And, this calls for concerted efforts from all stakeholders of the industry.
So, the overarching theme for this year's 'Pharma Summits' is 'Co-creating an ecosystem for pharma innovation'.
Organised by Express Pharma, these events will explore and examine factors influencing the pharma ecosystem and focus on crucial areas such as cost competitiveness, advancements in scientific research, creating new capabilities and skills, adapting to new regulations, leveraging emerging technologies for better outcomes etc.
The fourth pharma summit of the year is the Goa Pharma Summit. It follows the success of Aurangabad Pharma Summit in August, Bengaluru Pharma Summit in June, and the Ahmedabad Pharma Summit in April of FY 2024–25.
The pharma industry is a significant contributor to India's economy, be it healthcare, employment or exports. And Goa, with around 80 licensed manufacturing units from around 50 companies, is a major hub for pharma production and research activities. As per Invest India, Goa is the 4th largest pharma producing state, with 120 manufacturing units. 90 per cent of Goa's formulations are exported, making up 10 per cent of the country's pharma exports. Its robust industrial base, stringent regulatory standards, pool of skilled resources, panding R&D capabilities and GMP compliant facilities which meet US FDA and UK MHRA standards highlight its increasing importance for the sector.
Therefore, Goa Pharma Summit 2024, to be held on September 20, 2024, at the Goa, will look at strategies and approaches to solidify Goa’s status as a leading destination for production and innovation. It will cover strategic government initiatives and expansion efforts of major pharma companies that can contribute significantly to the state’s growth in the domestic markets as well as global ones.
Experts and leaders will also look at establishing the role Goa can play in cementing India Pharma Inc's dominance on the world stage, as a premier, export-oriented, pharma hub in India.
Expansion and investment
A surge in pharmaceutical licensing creates a favorable atmosphere for pharma companies to establish and expand their operations. With many companies like looking to expand their manufacturing lines in Goa, the state is poised for increased investment in manufacturing.
R&D and innovation
With increased focus on R&D, Goa has the potential to lead in pharma innovations, particularly in emerging fields like genomics and personalised medicine.
Strategic location and infrastructure
Situated on India’s west coast, Goa offers a strategic location with easy access to major shipping routes and ports. This geographic advantage facilitates efficient distribution and export of medicines, enhancing logistics and supply chain operations.
Skilled workforce
The availability of qualified professionals ensures that life sciences businesses can find the talent necessary for manufacturing, research, and management.
Government support and incentives
The state government’s initiatives to develop pharma hubs and attract investment include tax benefits, subsidies, protecting employment opportunities for locals and support for infrastructure development, making it financially as well as employment advantageous for companies to operate in Goa.
Export capabilities and international partnerships
The state’s existing export infrastructure and compliance with international standards demonstrates Goa’s potential as a hub for international partnerships and collaborations.
